The indigenous seamen claimed equal pay for equal work. "Their argument is that blacks do the same job as whites, their argument is fallacious" can be read in the letter. White seamen indeed held many managerial functions, whereas the indigenous people mostly executed jobs. However, they saw that their colleagues on British and American ships earned more money, so they often defected. Copy of a letter added to the received letter of the CMB to the Minister for Economic Affaits in London, 1941.
