After the independence, the former NILCO top management kept up the hope of still playing a significative role in the former colonies. The Congolese critcism towards the "capitalist" colonial agricultural policy of the past decades was difficult to stomach. Former director-general Jurion dreamed of reopening the research centre of Yangambi and to resore its glory of old days. The Simba uprising of 1964 - mainly in Kisangani - added fuel to the flames and thwarted a possible reopening of ‘Yangambi’.
